Today, we were split into four different groups based on our interests. The different choices for groups were sheep herding (Shannan, Talia, Ellie, Rose); cow herding (Molly, Stella, Renee, Kat); preparing bathrooms for construction (Dhiya, Harper, Carolina, Camille); and gathering firewood for the upcoming bonfire (Lucas, Giacomo, Alex, Filip). The sheep herding group was even lucky enough to hike up the mountains to a location where they peeled potatoes as they watched the snow fall onto the place where the animals were grazing. The cow herding group cut alfalfa for the cows to eat while a dog, Hijo, walked alongside them. The girls that prepared the first stages of the bathrooms flipped and cleaned adobe bricks. Later, they were able to visit a local’s house where they peeled potatoes and talked amongst villagers. The firewood group used sickles to cut wood which they carried back to the house on their backs. After everyone completed their community service for the day, local women visited our houses to show us the scarfs, bags, bracelets, and belts they have woven recently. Overall, it was an amazing day and we cannot wait to see what the rest of the trip entails!
