KATHERINE (KATIE) MOMINEE

After finishing her undergraduate degree at Ohio Northern University, Katie spent two years in AmeriCorps volunteering in a migrant farmworker community in southwest Florida. There she worked as an after-school teacher and an English as a Second Language tutor. She also hosted week-long service learning trips for college students. After AmeriCorps, Katie worked as a coordinator at a community garden and as an after-school youth counselor. Katie has spent significant time in Guatemala visiting Mayan sites, learning about the culture, and living with a local family. She coaches soccer and has led an immersion trip to Mexico with a youth soccer team. While in Spain, she studied Spanish colonial exploration and Florida’s history. She has lived in both Haiti and Senegal. Katie currently teaches English to adult speakers of other languages. She is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Haitian Creole.
MATTHEW STONE
California State University, Monterey Bay, B.S, Business and International Relations
At Monterey Bay, Matthew focused on Business while pursuing a soccer career which led him to play in Germany and conduct business in Austria. After school he volunteered as an EMT throughout Monterey County before moving to Central America to work as a SCUBA guide, surf instructor, and an emergency medicine instructor. He then moved to Colombia to teach English for a nonprofit. Matthew has ridden his motorcycle from Colombia to Peru, rock climbed throughout South America, and now lives in Huaraz, Peru, where he works for a local organization on construction and fundraising projects for the development of a hospital refuge in town. He is a certified Wilderness First Responder and Rescue Diver. This fall Matthew will be riding his motorcycle to southern Chile to work in Patagonia as a rock climbing and alpine guide. Matthew is fluent in Spanish and proficient in German.
